Wanda Johnson Smith Obituary

Wanda Johnson Smith, 93, passed away December 13, 2024, at Landmark Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Booneville, MS. She was born at home on August 30, 1931 to Chester and Adell Smith Johnson of Tishomingo. She was a 1949 graduate of Tishomingo High School.

Wanda was a member of East Booneville Baptist Church, where she enjoyed the fellowship of her Sunday School Class, Naomi's Connection.

She was a beautician at her own beauty shop operating from 1971-2001 in her home. She often let her granddaughters "help" her in the shop when they were younger.

She enjoyed word search puzzles, outings with the Seniors Group at church, and talking on the phone with friends and family. She enjoyed traveling with her husband and family. She loved cooking and feeding everyone large meals with homemade desserts.

In years past, she really enjoyed Friday lunches with her sisters after their weekly hair appointments and her granddaughters, while they were in college at Northeast.

A highlight of their year was Easter. She hosted lunch for the family. Easter egg dyeing and hunting was a tradition for her grandchildren and later her great grandchildren.

She enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She loved reading with them, building Lego houses and watching them play any type of sport.

A celebration of life service will be held at Kesler Funeral Home in Booneville on Monday, December 16, 2024. Visitation will be from 12-3 pm and service following at 3 pm. Bro. Steve Howell and Bro. Kelly Carmichael will be officiating. Burial will follow in the Tishomingo Cemetery.

She is survived by her son Dennis Smith and wife Jan of Baldwyn; her granddaughters, Jana Allen and husband Neal of Baldwyn, Kelsey Schubert and husband Trey of Oxford; grandson Jacob Smith of Florence, AL; great grandsons Riley and Nicholas Smith of Elkton, VA, Baker and Myles Allen of Baldwyn; sister Barbara Borden of Booneville; sister-in-law Louise Johnson of Marianna, FL; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 68 years, Darrell Smith; son Danny Smith; sisters Vera Taylor, Miriam "Bill" Riddle; brother James Johnson, infant brother and infant sister.

Honorary pallbearers will be members of Naomi's Connection Sunday School Class from East Booneville Baptist Church.

In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to East Booneville Baptist Church (602 East Church St, Booneville, MS 38829) or First Christian Church Baldwyn (996 S. 4th St. Baldwyn, MS 38824).
