Tommie Quay Garrett Obituary

Tommie Quay Garrett (83) passed away peacefully at her home Wednesday, July 31, 2024, surrounded by loving family. She was born on December 16, 1940, in Prentiss County (Booneville), MS. She was a dearly loved and dedicated mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister and special aunt to her family.

Tommie was the daughter of the late Lula Mae Henderson (Hutchens) and William Homer Saylors and her stepfather, Mildred Hutchens. She graduated from Thrasher High School in 1957 and attended Northeast Community College. She moved to Chicago, IL to work where she met and married the father of her children, Charles Arthur Garrett. After residing in Chicago a few years, they returned home to Booneville to raise their family and open an auto repair family business. She was a devoted homemaker and mother to their three children. Later in life, she returned to the workforce and was employed by various manufacturing companies. She was employed at Southern Diversified, Parker Hannifin and Kimberly Clark, where she retired from. She was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in Booneville, where she served the Lord in many capacities such as teacher, scout leader, and secretary in the children's Primary, a calling she held for numerous years and loved.

Services are 2 pm Sunday, August 4, 2024 in the Booneville Chapel of Kesler Funeral Home with Wayne Smith officiating. Family graveside services will follow in the Mormon Cemetery. Visitation will be 12-2 pm Sunday in the Booneville Chapel of Kesler Funeral Home.

In addition to her church work, Tommie was a devout Elvis Presley fan and was famous for her fried fish. She loved shopping and buying for her family and taking pictures of family. Tommie's passion in life was attending special events and celebrating achievements of her family members.

In addition to her parents, Tommie was preceded in death by her daughter, Sherry Beard and her great grandson, William Horn.

Tommie is survived by her sons, Ken Garrett (Donna) of Rolla, Missouri and Steve Garrett of Booneville; her grandchildren, Amber Horn (Phil) of St. Joseph, Missouri, David Garrett (Katya) of Springfield, Missouri, Jake Garrett of Booneville, Erik Garrett of Booneville, Kelsey Garrett of Booneville and Tyler Beard of Booneville; her great grandchildren, Ava Mae Garrett, Jay David Howell, Mia Mink, Adleigh & Walker Beard, Sam Horn and Sasha & Mila Garrett; her brother, Larry Hutchens (Debbie) of West Chester, IL; her sister, Rita Clifford of Booneville and a host of nieces and nephews that were very special to her.

The family would like to extend their deepest gratitude to all the caregivers and staff at Gentiva Hospice and Longwood Community Living for their care and support, and to the many individuals who have given of their personal time.
