Philip Lee Coats, (79), beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend, passed from this earthly life on March 10, 2025, at his home surrounded by his family. A proud Navy veteran, Philip dedicated his life to service-both to his country and to those he loved.
Born on March 30, 1945, in Blackland, Mississippi, Philip was an avid outdoorsman who loved hunting, fishing, mowing yards, tinkering with his tractors, playing dominoes and spending time with his family. He spent his life working in the telecommunications and security industry. Whether sharing stories, teaching life lessons, or simply offering a helping hand, his sense of humor and generous heart will be deeply missed.
He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Mary Alice Glover Coats; his three children, David Lee Coats (Anne), Crystal Coats White (Russell), and Philip Jordan Coats; his six grandchildren, Austin Tyler White (Carly), Marianna Elizabeth Coats, Josie Melissa Coats, Alexis Grace White, Jacob Lee Coats, and Brody Douglas White; his two great-grandchildren, Lyric Grace Coats and Finley May White; his siblings, Myron Coats (Judy), Bud Coats (Paula), Karen Wilson, and Cathy Williams (Don); his brother-in-law, Jimmy Glover (Betty); his sister-in-law, Freida Swinney; his best friend, his Boston Terrier, Sissy and a host of nieces, nephews, and friends who will forever cherish the memories and love he shared.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Vester & Beryl Coats; his brothers, William Jerry Coats, Joseph Lynn Coats, and George Murray Coats; his father-in-law, Clyde Glover and his mother-in-law, Ola Glover.
A celebration of his life will be held on Wednesday, March 12, 2025, at Booneville Church of Christ, with Brother Lance Foster officiating. Visitation will be from 1:00 to 4:00, with the funeral beginning at 4:00. Burial will be in the Oak Ridge Church of Christ Cemetery.
