Lanny Rawden Russell

Lanny Rawden Russell (75), son of the late Rawden & Luna Spigner Russell, met Jesus face to face surrounded by his family on Wednesday, September 4, 2024. Lanny was a 1967 Baldwyn High School graduate and a University of Mississippi graduate. He and his friend, Jack Little joined the United States Air Force in 1968. He was a Vietnam veteran. He loved to share stories with other vets he met on vacations.

Lanny was a faithful member, a former elder and a Sunday School teacher at Baldwyn First Christian Church. He worked in banking and retail but his love was the family farm and being outside. He was a true "homebody," knowing he was blessed "drinking from his saucer." After retiring he began a successful cattle and hay business which he enjoyed immensely until his health failed. He was active in the Mississippi Cattleman's Association.

Military services honoring Lanny's life will be at Baldwyn First Christian Church on Friday, September 6, 2024 at 5 pm. Burial will follow in the Pratt Community Cemetery. Visitation will be 3-5 pm Friday at Baldwyn First Christian Church.

Lanny is survived by his loving wife of 55 years, Peggy Stiles Russell; his sons, Brandon Russell (Geralyn) and Adam Russell (Tabitha). His kids were his greatest supporters and cheerleaders. Lanny was "Pop" to Kalianna, Abby, Dalton and Paisley for whom he loved buying ice cream. He is also survived by his niece, Pam Trantham (Ray); his nephew, Chuck Hassell (Tami); his sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Midge & JD Segroves and numerous cousins, nieces, nephews and special friends.

In addition to his parents and grandparents, he was preceded in death by his sister & brother-in-law, Ruth & Tom Hassell; his in-laws, Glover & Flo Stiles and his sister-in-law & brother-in-law, Diane & Don MacFarland.

Honorary pallbearers are his friends from Agnew's Round Table and other special friends.

The family would like to thank their prayer warriors, the faithful friends for cards, texts, food and visits and to our Lord for carrying us the past two years.
