Jerry Dean Smith

Jerry Dean Smith, 66, passed away peacefully at his home on July 3, 2026. He was born on August 21,1959 to George H. Smith and Thelma Rush Smith in Lee County. He grew up in a small town called Guntown, where he learned early that life was best lived on his own terms.
Jerry’s life was a testament to living on his own terms. A self‑taught woodworker and a man who refused to let anyone else’s expectations shape his path, he moved through the world with a quiet confidence that was entirely his own. Whether he was doing carpenter work, fishing the local ponds and lakes, or spending time with friends, Jerry found joy in the people who shared life alongside him.
He was known for his dry wit, his love for doing things his way, and his refusal to conform to anyone’s rules. He respected his own time, never rushed to please, and never apologized for choosing what mattered to him. By living authentically and unapologetically, Jerry inspired everyone around him to embrace the freedom of being themselves.
Jerry is survived by his children, Terry Gene Smith (Cydnie), Joanna Davis (Hayden) and Brittney Mitchell (Zach); his grandchildren, Rylee Smith, Ryder Smith (due in Sept), Brayden Craig, Emma Mitchell, Kinley Mitchell and Judah Mitchell; his sisters, Sherry Nelson of Guntown, Susan Smith (Bubba) of Blue Mountain, Amanda Camp (Neil) of Tupelo and Liz Stanford of Tupelo; his brothers, Wade White of Guntown and Rocky Smith of Fort Pierce, Florida; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Preceded in death are his parents; his siblings, George Pike, Dazzie Fowler, Joyce Fennell, Wilma Smith, Harold White, Bonnie Johnson, Brenda Donahue, Debbie Smith, Nancy Carol Smith and his twin brother Terry Gene Smith.
