James, JJ, Binky, grandpa, papaw or Dad (78) passed from this earth into eternal rest on Sept 27, 2021 in Ruleville, MS. He was born Sept 19,1943 to Lee and Vell Johnson. He paved a wide path of hard work; working in factories, keeping a garden, and various construction jobs. He was an electrician by trade. He was also an inventor, acquiring a patent for his invention the “squarer square” on June 18,1996. After retiring he enjoyed building things with his hands: rockers, porch swings, a rope bed, a fountain for his church (Gilmore Chapel), and other things. He could usually be found on his back porch whittling or shelling pecans. He loved his family and church. He liked when all would gather to enjoy a meal together. Services will be Thursday, September 30, 2021 at 4 pm at Ozark Baptist Church with Chris O'Daniel and Douglas Kitchens officiating. Visitation will be from 1 to 4. Burial will follow in the Ozark Methodist Cemetery.
He leaves behind three children: Brenda Beard of Mantachie , Scott Johnson (Beth) of Mooreville, and Chris Johnson of Tupelo. He leaves behind four grandchildren: Mollie Beard, Emmalee Johnson, Tyler Estes, & Madison Swindle. Three sisters; Eva Smith (Tootsie), Agnes Shields ( Clifton) , and Virgina Peters ( Danny). His brother Bobby Johnson (Margaret).
He was preceded in death by his parents, his sisters; Audrey Haggard and Ava Talent. his brothers; Jessie Johnson, Eddie Lee Johnson (Sonny), and Rex Johnson.
Pallbearers will be Mitchell Smith, Jaden Peters, Joseph Johnson, Jason Peters, Shannon Johnson, and Michael Lee Johnson (Boo).
