Hershel Eugene Cartwright (63) of Marietta, MS went home to be with the Lord, Thursday, October 3, 2024. He was born October 16, 1960 in Waukegan, IL. He was raised and live in Zion, IL most of his life until moving to Marietta in 2011.
He started his career in concrete / finisher over 45 years ago which started with his father who worked in masonry. When not working he enjoyed fishing, watching NASCAR, watching football (Go Chicago Bears), golfing, playing dominos with his mother, playing chess, cards & board games and spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren. Hershel never met a stranger. If you knew him or met his just once you would never forget him. He loved life and loved to make people laugh. He may be gone from our sight but he will never be forgotten.
He is survived by his four daughters, Denise Ludwig (Corey) & their children, Tanner and Wyatt all of Antioch, IL; Jessica Grabowski (Dennis) & their children, Zoey and Zachary all of Lisle, IL; Christine Cartwright (Matt) of Coppell, TX and Rebecca Cartwright & her children, Ruth, Remi and one on the way all of Greenville, PA; his son, Jack Cartwright (Amber) & their children, Evie, Winter, Summer and one on the way; his mother, Mattie (Butler) Bradfield of Marietta; his sister, Omia Louise Knudsen & her son, James, both of Cecil, WI; his brother, Brian Cartwright (Daphne) of Marietta & their sons, Robert and Josh both of TX; his sister, Elaine Cartwright of Marietta; his sister, Betty Avil of Beach Park, IL; his brother, Danny Cartwright (Kathy) of Winthrop Harbor, IL and his brother, Larry Cartwright of Beach Park, IL and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his father, Hershel Berry "Huckleberry" Cartwright; his paternal grandparents, Lundy Benford & Ester Naomi "Oma" Cartwright; his maternal grandparents, Clovis R. "Hull" Butler & Nancy Irlene (Michael) Butler; his brother, Jack Wade Archer and his uncles, Paul Eugene Butler & James Harold Butler.
Pallbearers are Bob (the Builder) Pennell, Weasel Lodon, Roy Timms, Michael Baggett, Kevin Roberts and Anthony (AJ) Williams.
Services are 2 pm Saturday, October 12, 2024 at New Covenant Family Worship Center, 511 Outlet Road Booneville, MS 38829 with Pastor David Krech and Bro. Richard Franklin officiating. Burial will follow in the Bridges Cemetery. Visitation will be 12-2 pm Saturday at the church.
Words of endearment will be made from his son, Jack and his daughter, Rebecca.
