Harold worked in broadcasting as a DJ at WBIP for 47 years and with the Booneville Police Department as a Dispatcher. During his years as a DJ, his early morning show was known as the Happy Harold Show. Everyone who tuned in always heard him slurp his "good cup of coffee." Harold was a tried-and-true old country music DJ. Listeners would hear the greatest country music singers, especially his favorite Waylon Jennings. Harold even named his son Waylon.

Those who grew up in the Booneville area heard the voice of Happy Harold in the early morning. Whether he was "slurping" coffee on the air, announcing school closings or community events or broadcasting games for Booneville High School, he tried to bring a little happiness to everyone listening.

Many people have said that Harold never met a stranger. If you talked to him for only a few minutes, you would leave with a smile and feel you had known him your whole life.

Harold chose a career he genuinely loved. You knew that by the joy he brought to every broadcast. His career let him meet some very interesting people. Harold was invited to the Grand Ole Opry where he had the opportunity to introduce Tammy Wynette. While interviewing her for the introduction eh commented on how down to earth she was. Tammy even held Harold's infant son Waylon and played with him during the interview.

Harold had a career he loved but he loved his Lord first. His love and devotion for his wife Inez was evident in his loving care for her during her years of dementia and declining health. His son Waylon was the light of his eyes. The love they shared was evident in the devotion they shared as a father and son.

As this broadcaster's life with us ends and we temporarily sign off, let's remember what "Happy Harold" always said at the end of his broadcast. Thanks for listening to the Happy Harold Show. Remember, don't tell your friends what you don't want your enemies to know. Be kind to everyone you meet, do good things for them, and do not harm anyone. See you next time on the Happy Harold Show if the good Lord is willing and the creek doesn't rise.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to a charity of your choice.
