Danny Joe Coker (76) was born on October 22, 1948 to the late Homer & Helen Bolen Coker and passed away April 22, 2025 at the Sanctuary Hospice House in Tupelo.
Danny graduated from Belden High School in 1968. He met Eddie Sue Hughes in January 1969 and they married on December 5, 1969. He was drafted in May of 1970 and served 20 months active duty followed by 4 years of Army Reserves after which he was honorably discharged. He lived in Sherman, MS where he enjoyed spending time with his family, working his horses and riding around visiting family, friends, and neighbors. He loved to laugh and he loved to pick on everyone, but most importantly he loved being "Pop" to his 5 grandchildren. Danny and Sue enjoyed traveling and playing dominos with their special friends Larry and Sandra Hutcheson. He was a faithful Christian and a charter member and Deacon at Tri-County Baptist Church. He was a truck driver for over fifty years during which he made many lifelong friends. His CB handle was "Danny Boy." His last job was driving for Bucy & Long Dirtworks until his health failed.
Services are 2 pm Friday, April 25, 2025 at Tri-County Baptist Church with Bro. Chad Higgins and Bro. Chris Jordan officiating. Burial will follow in the Macedonia Community Cemetery in Lee County. Visitation will be 5-8 pm Thursday, April 24, 2025 at Tri-County Baptist Church (638 CR 1 Tupelo, MS 38804).
Danny is survived by his wife, of 55 years, Sue Coker; his daughters, Danette Higgins (Chad) and DeAnna Wages (Jeff); his beloved grandchildren, Hunter Wages (Shanna Lopez), Whitney Wages (fiance' Isaiah Ball), Taylor Higgins, Samuel Higgins and Benjamin Higgins; his brothers, Rickey Coker (Jeanette), Roger Coker (Lana) and Tommy Coker and his sister, Lisa Coker.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Larry Coker, Sr. and his grandchild, Sarah Higgins.
Pallbearers are Hunter Wages, Samuel Higgins, Benjamin Higgins, Lonnie Hendrix, Ethan Watts and John Orman.
Honorary pallbearers are Bud Williams and the men of Tri-County Baptist Church.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Sanctuary Hospice House or to the Gideons International Ministry.
