Clara “Susie” Wren passed away on Tuesday May 7th, 2024 at North Alabama Medical Center in Florence, AL at the age of 81.
She left home of Booneville, MS at the age of 18 to join her sister, Mattie, in Memphis. The two continued their journey to San Francisco, CA where Susie resided until she was almost 80 years old other than a number of years she spent living in Hawaii. It was there, at the Chart House Restaurant, that she met her lifelong best friend, Sharon Itchener, along with many other dear friends that she kept up with for over 40 years. During her years working in the restaurant industry she served many famous people including Tina Turner. Later she and Sharon worked at a bookstore, Books, Inc, where they continued to cultivate friendships. They enjoyed hosting at the apartment on Fell Street in San Francisco.
She loved Motown music, but she enjoyed and was very knowledgeable on all genres even modern music.
She enjoyed spending time with her beloved cat Moki, listening to music, watching the 49ers or Giants, Christmas movies on the Hallmark channel, chatting with old friends, cooking and enjoying a glass of wine. She was known for her famous spaghetti sauce.
She enjoyed life to the fullest and on her own terms. She was the life of the party!
She returned to her home state of MS at age 80 where she lived near her great niece, Christy Fisher and her husband, David, in Baldwyn, MS.
She is survived by a brother, Gwendol (Elaine) of Booneville; a godson, Conrad Itchener, of Florida and his two children, Reva & Mana along with a host of nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, J.W. and Esther Wren; five brothers, Roy, Cullen, James, Gerald and Amos Wren; four sisters, Syble Wren, Norma Jean Glissen, Mattie Drake and Zannie Wilemon; one nephew, Jackie Wren and a lifelong best friend, Sharon Itchener.
The family will have a private memorial.
