Bro. Horace R. McCombs Obituary

Horace Reuben McCombs, 100, passed from this life on Tuesday, May 24, 2022 at the Landmark Nursing Home surrounded by his loving family. He was born March 9, 1922 to Benjamin and Lena McCombs in Paragould, Arkansas. He was a member of Forked Oak Baptist Church of which he pastored for 25 years. A veteran of World War II, Horace wore many hats throughout life… farmer, soldier, bricklayer, pastor, and later in life, master gardener and caretaker, particularly of his prized peach trees.


A celebration of his remarkable life will be at 2 pm Friday, May 27, 2022 at Forked Oak Baptist Church with full military honors. Bro. Randy McCombs, Bro. Marshall Tennison, and Bro. Kenneth Bobo will hold the services. Visitation will be Friday from 12 pm to 2 pm at the church. Burial will be in Forked Oak Cemetery. Kesler Funeral Home is honored to assist with the arrangements.

Bro. Horace is survived by his wife, Hildred McCombs; his daughter, Brenda Dear of Oakton, VA; his son, Ronnie McCombs (Carolyn) of Rienzi MS; his two step-children, David Pettigo (Shelia) and Charlene Webb (Danny); his grandchildren, Mark Tabor (Tracy), Kim Sissom (Pat), Carissa Dear (Paolo Iafrati), Cerena Young (Duane), Danielle King (Robbie), and Carlena Benjamin (Burton); 17 great-grandchildren; 5 great great-grandchildren and his sister, Virginia Young (Ray) of TN.


He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife of 67 years Lessie Ree (Riddle) McCombs; his daughter, Carole South (Bobby); his brothers, George and Leo McCombs and his sisters, Mildred Winsette and Kathy Graham.


Pallbearers are his grandson and great grandsons; Mark Tabor, Coleton Tabor, Patrick Sissom, Alex King, Max King, and Tate King.
